About me

You’re here because you need a DOP who is also a CAA licensed Drone Op. And I am so much more than that… from starting as a set builder and being in charge of standby props on I’m a Celebrity, to shooting music videos, food commercials, drama, documentaries and sport, I’ve spent the last 18 years cementing my skills in cinematography and telling your story through my camera lens.

As well as owning a Sony Venice, I can tailor your package to whatever your needs are, and wherever you need to shoot. Find my equipment section here.

If you need aerial footage to complement your footage, more detailed info is here.

And lastly, look no further should you require additional camera operators, sound recordists and camera assistants anywhere in the UK.

I may be based in the South East, but have bases in Hampshire, Dorset, Bristol and Yorkshire… and most importantly, a passport, so you can contact me here.

Portfolio

I am a versatile DOP, being able to capture your story, whatever the genre; commercials to music videos, documentaries to light entertainment, reality to drama and also sport, both in studio and location, I love the challenges all these genres bring. From shooting on top of an active volcano in Italy to unearthing and opening long forgotten tombs beneath Sudan’s pyramids, from the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff to the peaks of Mount Everest and almost everything in between. Projects with UNICEF mean that I have completed Hostile Environment training and worked in many sensitive situations and locations in famine and war-torn countries; from hospitals to refugee camps and often in isolated villages, almost always off the beaten track. Here’s a selection of my portfolio of works.

Drone Operation

Since 2016, I have a PFAW (Permission for Aerial Work) from the CAA and hold a RPAS-RPQ qualification (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems – Remote Pilot Qualification). With this I am able to provide additional aerial filming solutions as part of my package as a DOP.

My company, Seventy 3 Frames Ltd, is fully insured for all operations, and will take care of all safety obligations for the use of UAV’s (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) for your production and filming needs. A copy of our licence and insurance will be provided on request.

We are able to provide both moving footage and stills dependent on the specific needs of your job and can supply both the 5.2K raw DJI Inspire 2 with Zenmuse X7 camera and the DJI Inspire 1. All provided with the option of DJI 16mm, 24mm, 35mm and 55mm lenses.

For more information, pricing and booking please contact me. No two jobs are the same, so the best thing to do is to pick up the phone so we can discuss in detail your filming requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What about the legislation set out by the Civil Aviation Authority?

Anyone who wants to use an unmanned aircraft (UAV) for commercial activity must have consent from the CAA, which is known as a Permission for Aerial Work (PFAW). As part of this consent, the operator is required to be up to date with the CAA’s operating conditions and limitations. Typically, drones must not be flown higher than 400ft, to a distance of 500m or within 50m of people, vehicles or buildings, or over congested areas or large gatherings.

How can I be sure to pick the right company?
Seventy 3 Frames understands professional broadcast and has an appreciation of the workflow, the language and the format that you need to walk away with. With proven experience with some of the major broadcasters you can be guaranteed that you will walk away with the best results.
How fast and how long can the drone fly?
Drones fly at about 35mph, much faster and you will need to seek a helicopter for your filming needs. Typically each flight has a battery life of 15 minutes.
What about the weather?
For every job, we will always make an assessment on the weather conditions and whether it is safe to fly. Excessive wind and any precipitation will ground operations, so you have to be prepared for a job to be delayed or even cancelled at the last minute.
How much coverage will I get?
The bigger the open space, the more you will get out of the drone. Large controlled areas mean that you can place the camera wherever you want. Drones unlock aerial shots in confined spaces like caves, tunnels and hangers, you just have to be aware of the noise of the motor and rotors.
What about safety?
We will take care of all safety requirements for the job, starting ideally with a survey of the location we will then assess all factors and pull together the risk assessment implementing measures to mitigate the risks and look after ground safety management.
